What our users say

I find it’s especially good for giving me a starting point when roasters give their recommended grind size for machines like the EK43. Appreciate the work you’ve done

It’s a lot more helpful than some people in the forums who would rather lecture about how even the same branded grinders and beans vary, instead of simply saying what setting they’re using so new users have a reference point to start from.

I converted the grind size from my Varia EVO Hybrid to my new Timemore Sculptor 078S this morning for my V60 recipe, and it was delicious.

I lost count of how many times I’ve looked for grinder conversions, even if approximate and geometry is different, having a ballpark within a few clicks when testing a recipe someone loves is amazing.

I love that I can convert microns into clicks for each grinder! Thank you for what you do.

This is great. Just getting into this coffee grinding thing, and most of the recipes declare the grind size by the hallowed Comandante C40. And you’ve got my 1Zpresso Q there. Sorted.

Seems quite good between my j ultra and df54. I think it will help lots of people with general ballpark calculations.

Coffee grinder setting converter and calculator

Our coffee grinder setting converter and calculator helps you convert grind settings between different coffee grinders with more precision. Whether you are recreating a recipe from another grinder or dialing in your own brew, this tool allows you to calculate equivalent grind settings across both hand grinders and electric grinders.

Instead of guessing, you can convert from widely used reference grinders such as the Comandante C40 to many other grinder models. This gives you a reliable starting point for espresso, filter coffee, and other brewing methods.

How our converter/calculator works

Converting grind settings between coffee grinders is not straightforward. Different grinders use different adjustment systems, burr geometries, and calibration ranges, and most manufacturers do not publish official micron measurements. Our grinder setting calculator uses crowdsourced grind data, grinder specific adjustment steps, and ongoing optimization to estimate equivalent settings between grinders. The goal is to provide a practical and repeatable starting point rather than a vague approximation.

If you notice that a specific grinder conversion seems inaccurate, let us know to help improve the calculator for everyone.

Grinder setting calculator vs grind size charts

Grind size charts describe grind textures using broad terms like fine, medium, or coarse. While they are useful for learning, they do not account for differences between grinder models, burr design, or adjustment increments. A grinder setting calculator goes further by calculating settings based on the mechanics of each grinder. Instead of guessing from a chart, you get a concrete setting you can dial in, saving time, coffee beans, and frustration.

Convert between grinder setting or microns

  1. Begin by selecting the grinder model from which you want to convert. The grind settings for most recipes are defined by an industry standard Comandante C40
  2. Enter the grind setting or set target microns from which you’d like to convert. Most pour-over recipes will typically be in the medium-coarse range
  3. Choose your coffee grinder model: Select the model of your hand grinder from our list
  4. Get your setting: Our converter will display the approximate equivalent setting for your grinder

Our coffee grinder settings converter is constantly updated to include the latest grinder models.
