Koffee Mameya — Founded by Tokyo’s Coffee Legend
Koffee Mameya Kakeru, located in Koto City, stands as a beacon in Tokyo’s specialty coffee scene. Founded by visionary Eiichi Kunitomo, this cafe embodies the Japanese concept of kodawari—a commitment to perfection and attention to detail. Koffee Mameya Kakeru offers a refined coffee experience that embraces innovation, continually meeting the evolving needs of coffee enthusiasts while maintaining a deep respect for craftsmanship and quality.
Kunitomo played a pivotal role in transforming Japan’s coffee culture from quantity to quality.
He started with Omotesando Koffee to introduce specialty coffee. Then, he refined the concept into Koffee Mameya, focusing on bean sales and tastings. In 2021, Koffee Mameya Kakeru launched, enhancing the coffee experience by uniting multiple elements of coffee craftsmanship.
Kunitomo sources coffee globally, valuing roasters’ philosophies and narratives. He builds strong community ties. The venue, reimagined by Kato and Hayashi, offers minimalist elegance. Here, baristas showcase their art, engaging customers in the coffee journey.

Escaping the relentless rain, I found shelter in the cozy confines of the coffee shop. There, a barista with an artist’s touch took me under his wing for a tailored coffee discovery session. Furthermore, he expertly matched a blend to my tastes and meticulously demonstrated the brewing art. Moreover, Koffee Mameya Kakeru transcends the typical cafe experience, offering the precision and care of a coffee kaiseki. Quality, seasonality, and artful presentation are at the forefront, complemented by the baristas’ expertise. Additionally, one can indulge in a journey of flavors with coffee tasting courses, or savor innovative coffee cocktails and mocktails crafted by skilled mixologists.

Koffee Mameya Bean Shop
Koffee Mameya in Shibuya elevates Tokyo’s specialty coffee scene to an art form, blending the roles of a bean shop and a gallery. Rather than traditional artwork, the focus here is on coffee beans sourced from around the world, each with a distinctive story. The baristas go beyond simply preparing coffee; they guide customers through a sensory journey, sharing their knowledge and deepening the appreciation for the craft of specialty coffee in Tokyo.
Amidst the shop’s minimalist design, which allows the coffee itself to take center stage, Koffee Mameya stands as a tribute to Japan’s deep-seated appreciation for meticulous craftsmanship and attention to detail. The baristas at Koffee Mameya take their role as coffee curators seriously. They engage with each visitor, assessing individual tastes and preferences, and considering the specific brew method and equipment each customer uses.

With this personalised approach the barista not only matched me with some amazing beans from LEAVES. He also gave me a hand-written brewing recipe tailored to my equipment. This recipe acts as a roadmap to achieving the ideal cup at home, ensuring the beans you take away are given the chance to express their full potential in your own brewing ritual.
